Why YOU should be coming to see Kaiser Chiefs at Elland Road

It is only a matter of months until Kaiser Chiefs are heading back to their hometown to play the huge Elland Road gig, celebrating 100 years of Leeds United. The centenary year concert sees huge support from The Vaccines and The Sherlocks and promises to be an unmissable event.

Personally, there is nothing I love more than attending an outdoor gig in the summer seeing some of your favourite bands. Having a rake of beers with your mates whilst basking in the sunlight and listening to live music – what more could you want?

Although I have never seen a gig at Elland Road before, I have no doubt the venue will be a great concert setting. The first time I saw Kaiser Chiefs was back in 2014 at T in the Park and they were undoubtedly one of the best bands I saw that year. They bring such a great energy to the stage, Ricky Wilson in particular, and as we all know, have hit after hit after hit.

The concert takes place on Saturday June 8 and it is not the first time the Leeds rockers have played the stadium. 2008 was their last performance there and Ricky Wilson spoke to local publication Leeds Live and said:

“It’s incredible. Last time we were here I don’t think we soaked it in enough, I don’t think we appreciated what we’d achieved, so 10 years later we’re older and wiser so we’re just going to take it in and go you know what guys? We made it, this is beyond our wildest dreams.”

Kaiser Chiefs have nearly been around for 20 years now, first forming under the name of ‘Parva’ in 2000. They released one album whilst under the name of Parva called ’22’, but since the inception of Kaiser Chiefs, there has been six studio releases. 2005’s album ‘Employment’ was their debut album and contained now major singles ‘Oh My God’, ‘Everyday I love you less and less’, ‘Modern Way’ and ‘I Predict a Riot’ – not a bad debut album is it?

Their follow up, Yours Truly, Angry Mob, became the bands first UK number one album and their second album to sell over one million copies, solidifying them as one of Britain’s top bands. It also saw the release of arguably their most famous and recognisable single – ‘Ruby’, one which will surely go down a treat come the gig in June.

‘Off with their Heads’ followed and during that time saw their first performance at Elland Road in 2008, the release of huge hit ‘Never Miss a Beat’ and a UK arena tour. Album number 4 ‘The Future is Medieval’ was released in 2011 and just a year later, the band released their first compilation album – ‘Souvenir’, jam packed with their biggest singles.

Education, Education, Education and War came in 2014 and landed the Kaiser Chiefs their second UK number one album and also, secured their fourth album that went Gold. The album included huge hit ‘Coming Home’ and a personal favourite of mine ‘Ruffians on Parade’. Their latest album ‘Stay Together’ landed in 2016 and reached number four in the charts. It contained leading single ‘Parachute’, which was a slight change of direction for the band, but personally I find it a great tune.

South Yorkshire band The Sherlocks will open proceedings who will bring their huge indie sound and The Vaccines need no introduction. Do yourself a favour and head to See Tickets to grab yourself some tickets for this unmissable gig!
