It was nearly three years to the day that Dilly Dally last played in Leeds prior to their return on January 24. They played a rip-roaring set to an eager Headrow House crowd on the first date of their current UK tour which spans across seven different dates up and down the country.

Although the venue was not a complete sell out, Dilly Dally’s dark, heavy and brooding sound certainly filled the room and encapsulated the audience from the opening track onward. The setlist was packed with new hits from their most recent album ‘Heaven’, including the massive ‘I Feel Free’, which opened proceedings for the night.

Understandably, the setlist was largely ‘Heaven’ based, as opposed to their 2015 debut release ‘Sore’. Lead singer Katie Monks has openly talked about how the second album was a tough process to create after a huge tour taking its toll on the Canadian quartet following album number one, but we are certainly all the better off with its release.

Monks effortlessly hits the somewhat unattainable notes for many people, in songs such as Sober Motel, which really allow her to showcase her incredible vocal range. The rest of the band were just as electric throughout the gig, and for a band who are relatively new to worldwide tours such as this, they seamlessly performed like seasoned pros.

It was great to see a band who have travelled all the way across the Atlantic and perform songs of this certain genre resonate with a British crowd so well. Each track was captivating and most importantly, once the final song was played, the crowd were left wanting more.
