DMA’S are arguably my favourite current band and there is very good reason for that – they’re absolutely fantastic. Now on their second album, the trio are slowly building a large UK fan base, which they thoroughly deserve.
I first saw them back in 2016 when they were touring ‘Hills End’ at Ku Bar in Stockton. After closing their set with an extended version of ‘Play it Out’ that sounded nothing short of massive, I knew they were destined for great things.
We’re now two and a half years on and I’m raring to see them for the sixth time. The venue was the o2 Academy and it would be the first time I’ve seen them from watching up in the balcony, as opposed to being down right at the front.
This offered me a whole new perspective of a DMA’S gig and certainly allowed me to appreciate them even more. The setlist consisted of songs from both albums and their early singles, which all fit together seamlessly.
Lay Down sounded as huge as ever and Delete was unanimously roared by the entire crowd whilst caressing eachother for the entirety of its four minutes. Setlist staple Feels Like 37 once again justified why it gets included at every gig they play with the sheer energy it generates with the crowd.
New songs Break Me and For Now are both played during the set and sound absolutely masterful. Both of these songs channel The DMA’S’ inner Stone Roses and slot into the new setlist with ease.
It would be criminal of me not to mention frontman Tommy Odell. He has one of the most melodic and riveting voices I have ever came across and he evidently thrives off the live crowds that all yearn to be him. Tommy, Mason and Johnny own the stage like seasoned professionals and must know themselves that they’re onto something special.
If you’ve never seen these guys live, then please do yourselves a favour and catch them on their next tour!
